The system's packages are complete in a sense that all source, data and documentation files are included. These files, however, are rarely needed; except if you want to branch a new development tree.
Warning:Please consider that this development is a one-man undertaking, and it shall develop together with its documentation. There are pre-developed code fragments and docs, but it needs time to put them in a consistent state, especially that also development and testing is needed.
